Garfield officers and Hackensack University Medical Center EMS and paramedics were called to a home on Outwater Lane at approximately 3:25 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, where the girl had suffered burns on her stomach, arm, and groin, Capt. Mario Pozo said.

The girl and her mother were flown by Hackensack Meridian Health's AirMed 1 from 20th Century Field on Elizabeth Street in Garfield to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, Pozo said.

The hospital is equipped with New Jersey's only state-certified burn treatment facility, its website says.

The child's condition was unknown as of press time.
